The destination is not important, it's each tiny moment along the way. That's what these photos mean to me.
To those of you still reading my articles, WOW! THANK YOU for your interest! I have gained so much joy from motorcycles over the years and this album, like the last, moves completely away from anything ‘technical’. I want to share with you some of the AMAZING things I’ve seen, and countryside I’ve ridden through, over just the last 4 years since moving to the Gold Coast and having better access to the hinterland and the major routes north and south.
Some of the rides are shared with my beautiful wife (you’ll see her happily beside our loaded up cruiser), some are with a mate (there’s my mate Ben with me at the old Tyalgum country store), some are lone-wolf style (I love an early morning ride to catch the mist in the mountain, see photo 5; or a spirited ride through the twisties up in ‘them thar hills’ - photo up on the Numinbah pass, just look at that view all the way to the ocean in photo 6!) and, some (many) are with a club or a social group (see the great photo, photo 8, taken of a Gold Coast Cruiser Club ride through maze of country roads through the temperate rainforests of Northern NSW).
The last photo is, obviously, a digital rendering … but the barren colours reflect the ride. I took my big 1900 Roadliner out in to central and western Queensland. I just rode in to the sunset, as far as the road went, day after day. And when I got to the end of the road … well, I just turned around and came back! It was wonderful just riding without a destination, just the horizon, and this photo really sums up the experience for me.
On a motorcycle you are flying, you are part of the air, the bike responds to every body movement, and you are focussed. There is NOTHING that I’ve done that is so beautiful as to just ride. The destination is not important, it’s each tiny moment along the way, and that’s what these photos show.
I hope others can see what it is I'm trying say ... just enjoy your riding, get out there and just be IN the moment!
We are already planning a HUGE ride south via the Hunter Valley, Blue and Snowy Mountains, down to Phillip Island for the MotoGP in October. I am there already, in my head. I can't think of anything else!
