Fresh from the release of the dual cab body style (joining the single cab-chassis, wagon and troopcarrier), Toyota have announced a range of upgrades across most variants within the 70 Series LandCruiser range.
The main feature of note is ABS anti-skid brakes, which will be applied to all models in the 70 Series. The ABS brakes will operate when the vehicle is in H2 and H4 modes (except when differential locks are engaged).
Across the three specification variants – WorkMate, GX and GXL - differential locks are now standard equipment on GXL models.
GXL-spec 70 Series models (troop carrier, wagon and dual cab) also receive factory-installed wireless door locks with new key fob (previously port installed), and a new in-dash multi-function clock. The clock includes an alarm function, stopwatch and outside temperature readout. It is also fitted to the single cab GX model.
Externally, all upgraded 70 Series will feature an air-inlet snorkel mounted on the A-pillar, while the upgraded LandCruiser 70 WorkMate troop carrier now has a high-mount centre stop lamp for added safety. Fuel tank capacity has increased in wagon models from 90 to 130 litres, with the fuel tank mounted between the chassis rails.
Inside, the upgraded LandCruiser 70 Series has a new audio/CD system with Bluetooth™# hands-free, audio streaming and voice-recognition phone/audio. The new four-speaker audio has a single CD, radio text and facia-mounted 3.5mm AUX jack and USB input^. The dashboard design has been improved, with a new front storage compartment/cupholder with 12V accessory power socket.
LandCruiser 70 wagon models also have new front bucket and rear seats, and the improved seat designs have been fitted to double cab models. The new front seats for wagon models have an extended seat cushion made from visco-elastic foam and an additional 30mm of fore/aft slide adjustment. The rear seat in wagon models has a new 42mm-longer cushion for added comfort.
Seven exterior colours are offered, with a choice of grey vinyl or grey fabric seats. The grey fabric interior is now offered with all exterior colour choices.
A turbocharged high-pressure direct-injection V8 diesel engine is common to all LandCruiser 70 Series models, as is a five-speed manual transmission, two-speed transfer and power-assisted steering. WorkMate models have 16-inch steel split rims. GX and GXL (except LC78 GXL) models have 16-inch alloy wheels.
Prices start from $58,790* for the single cab WorkMate model.
The new dual cab 70 Series model will be available from September, joining the other three body styles in the 70 Series lineup. See your Toyota LandCruiser dealer for further details.
