Following the shock announcement that Casey Stoner would quit the MotoGP World Championship at the end of 2012, and Valentino Rossi’s commitment to stay in the series for two more seasons, comes news that Jorge Lorenzo will stay a Yamaha factory rider for the next two seasons.

In a press release on June 12, Yamaha Motor Co. confirmed the extension of the 2010 MotoGP World Champ’s contract, which will see Lorenzo ride for the Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Team for 2013 and 2014.

Lorenzo joined Yamaha in 2008, achieving fourth place in his first season and claiming the Rookie of the Year title. He was then second in 2009, went on to become MotoGP World Champion in 2010 and was second again in 2011.

Lorenzo, who celebrated his 25th birthday in May, currently leads the 2012 MotoGP Championship by 20 points having taken three victories from the first five completed races of the 18 race series.
