Spectacularly original 1977 build Kawasaki KZ1000 Z1R. This bike is not restored, it is patina perfect and 41 years old. Obviously well cared for throughout its life, it has for the past 5 years been part of our collection and only travelled just over 15,000 miles from new. The Z1000 as a model has an amazing history; successfully raced in Europe, Australian, American and British Superbike categories, US legend Reg Pridmore won the AMA Superbike Championship in 1977 and 1978 on board a Z1000, and internationally famous Pops Yoshimura first began to make his reputation in the mid-1970s by fielding fast, reliable Kawasaki Z1000s in the AMA Superbike championships. Locally, equally famous Mamoru Moriwaki prepared Z1000’s for the Australian Superbike championships for Kiwi legend Graeme Crosby. John Cowie riding a Z1000 for the Pecket & McNab team, won the 1978 British ACU Formula One championship for production bikes, while US hero Fast Freddie Spencer rode a Z1000 during the 79 AMA Superbike Championship, winning two races and finishing third in the final championship points standings, and in 1981, Eddie Lawson won the AMA Superbike Championship for Kawasaki on a factory-backed Z1000S. Ozzie fast men Wayne Gardner and John Pace qualified their Moriwaki-Kawasaki Z1000 on pole position at the prestigious 1981 Suzuka 8 Hours, ahead of all the major factory racing teams. The KZ1000 also has history on the silver screen, with the over the top 70/80’s smash’em up cop series CHIP’s, staring Erik Estrada (Ponch) & Larry Wilcox (Jon). The KZ100 was also the bike of choice for Keanu Reeves in his film Chain Reaction. Closer to home 14 KZ’s were used in the original MAD MAX, one as a police bike ridden by 'The Goose', and thirteen more for members of the Toecutter's gang, who were actual gang members of Victorian based Vigilanties M/C. This bike was delivered new in the US and imported into Australia by the current owner. It is easily the most original example we've seen presented for sale. In preparing this bike for selling the following work has been performed. Full engine service, new plugs & oil. Carburettors removed, striped and jets cleaned. Rear brake fluid drained, master cylinder stripped and overhauled. Front brake fluids drained, reservoir cleaned & new rubber bellow. Fuel tank drained, cleaned and petcock seal replaced.

  • 1972 HONDA CB72 FOR SALE

    $14,500

Few motorcycles changed the face of motorcycling as much as the Honda CB72 and CB77 Hawk and Super Hawk. Introduced in 1961, these models changed not only the public’s perception of Honda, but more importantly, it changed the public’s perception of motorcycling in general. Honda’s marketing catch-cry of the 1960s was, “You meet the nicest people on a Honda”, and so set forth an image that began the demise of the stereotype bad-arse biker. The reliable, clean and smooth CB72 and CB77 were the right bikes for these nice people. Based on Honda’s first twin, the 1957 250cc C70, the C72 arrived in 1960’s and sported much 70’s features & parts, like pressed-steel frame, forks, swinging arm and rear chain case. The engine's basic layout likewise was retained, but benefitted greatly from a wet sump lubrication and the clutch moved from the crankshaft to the gearbox main-shaft. Maximum power increased to 20bhp at 8,000rpm, helped by a 180-degree crankshaft and twin carburettors, and the sportier CB derivative received a tubular spine frame instead of the pressed-steel chassis, ad made 24bhp at a then-stratospheric 9,000rpm. The CB72 possessed an excellent power-to-weight ratio endowing it with performance challenging that of many British 500s. Boasting an overhead-camshaft engine, electric starter, rev counter and twin-leading-shoe brakes, the CB72 was unmatched by any of its rivals. Indeed, such specifications (electric starter apart) would have been the exclusive preserve of exotic racing machinery only a few years previously. Tailor-made for production racing, the Honda CB72 was one of the first Oriental models to make its mark in this increasingly popular and important branch of motorcycle sport. Today the CB72 is one of the most desirable of early Japanese classics, and is constantly growing in demand amongst enthusiasts. This bike is one of the first models produced by Honda. This beautifully restored Honda CB72 is presently in Queensland (Australia) and as the photos show, has been painfully restored to concourse condition. The advertised price is a fraction of the restoration costs and must surely be the best value vintage Honda for any enthusiast. Following is a list of new NOS parts that were fitted during restoration: Hagon replica rear shocks, Swing arm bushes both metal and Bakelite, Ignition coils, Ignition switch, A & B Wiring harnesses, Condenser & Rectifier, Ar filters & filter tubes, All seals and gaskets, Front/rear wheel bearings, F/R Tyres & front brake linings, Taillight unit complete, Fork seals, Tappet covers, Complete starter clutch, All control cables, Foot peg rubbers, Front and rear sprockets,Rear drive chain.

  • Introduced in 1919, the Sport had a 35.6 cubic-inch twin with horizontally opposed ``fore and aft`` cylinders. It was intended to compete against Indian's highly successful V-twin Scout, but it failed to win favour with customers and was dropped in 1923. The 1920 Harley-Davidson 20-J sported the olive paint scheme Harley switched to with its 1917 models. Styling changes were few during those years, the most notable occurring in 1920 when the headlight and horn switched places. All the V-twins displaced the same 61 cubic inches (1,000-cc) as before, though a 74-cubic-inch (1,200-cc) model joined the line for 1921. This particular example has been beautifully restored to a cut-down board racer fashion, and is in excellent original condition. Presently on display in the owner’s American residence, export clearance, shipping and arrival can be performed by Raidermoto.com to any country or port.

  • Hendee Manufacturing was at a highpoint of their history at the end of 1913. They had become the greatest motorcycle company in the world. They possessed the best technology and the largest capacity to manufacture two-wheeled motor vehicles. Their machines began with relatively small displacement single cylinder engines in lightweight diamond frames, to quickly evolve into industry setting engine displacements using advanced engineering and novel frame developments. They were solid, dependable transportation on the road and all-conquering on the competition circuits around the world. Entering the 1914 model year, Indian unveiled their astounding Hendee Special, the first motorcycle with full electrics including electric start. However the Indian was far superior to the current battery technology of the period and the endeavour became an expensive failure to the company. Hendee had to fall back on its standard roadsters such as this unrestored example of the 61 cubic inch V-twin that was available to the motorcycle enthusiast in 1914. Growing competition from the mid-west upstart, Harley-Davidson and also from Henry Ford’s Model T that just began to lower the cost of a car through the effective use of the moving assembly line, would begin to carve into Indian’s world. Production would fall from a high of 32,000 motorcycles the year before to 25,000 that following year. Indian manufactured a 4 horsepower single in 1914 but their bread and butter machine was this 7 horsepower 61 cubic inch twin that was available in several variants. This motorcycle was the two-speed model without electrics and sold for $275. The same Hedstrom engine powered all the models, and featured heavier inlet valve rocker arms and heavier valve domes. The two-speed transmission worked through a hand change situated on the right side of the gas tank, something that would remain with Indians until their last days. Hand controls included a left hand throttle and a right hand spark advance, both using Indian’s double link control with mechanical linkage. The engine sat low in Indian’s loop frame and road jars were uniquely quelled by their Spring Cradle Frame utilizing leaf spring suspension in both the front and rear of the motorcycle. This particular example has been beautifully restored to resemble those used by the medical core during in WW1. This spectacular bike is a concourse winner and presently on display in the owner’s American residence. Export clearance, shipping and arrival can be performed by Raidermoto.com to any country or port.

  • 1976 Evel Knievel Stratocycle. In the 70’s there was no one other legend like Evel Knievel, the king of danger and risk. 1977 Knievel made the move from the show ground stunts to Hollywood & the silver screen. His first acting role was the now cult classic Viva Knievel! The movie plays out like any good 1970s-era celluloid caper. There are goodies, baddies, stunts, kidnappings, beautiful women, car chases, and gunfights. Perhaps the most memorable scene is the one that introduces Evel’s Stratocycle, a customized Harley-Davidson Sportster XLCH with a unique fairing, fuel tank, seat, and rear cowl that is possibly the most American thing that has ever sat atop two wheels. Evel played a fictional version of himself in the film and perhaps unsurprisingly some of Hollywood’s biggest names lined up to accompany him on screen, including Gene Kelly, Leslie Nielsen, Red Buttons, Lauren Hutton, and Marjoe Gortner. Throughout the late-1970s, a toy version of the Stratocycle was sold by the Ideal Toy Company. This model version could be sent flying through the air from its dedicated launcher and today it’s one of the rarest and most highly sought after toys from the Knievel line.
