Seller's Description
Triple Webber Tri-Carb Works type Healey.
This Car began life as a BT7 Tri-Carb with the standard 3 1"3/4 SU Carbys but during its restoration in 2013 /2014 it was equipped in the style of the Works Healey rally cars.
It now sports Mini-light wheels, rally bumpers and grill and a set of Original works triple Webbers and works manifolds purchased some years back with the intention of fitting. Austin Healey cars can’t just be fitted with this set up the left hand side peddle box assembly needs to be modified and removed and the air intake rerouted. This requires unpicking the welds on the foot well and manufacturing new panels, this work was done at Marsh Classic Restorations. The engine was rebuilt with a works type cam, Lightened flywheel and clutch, Extractors and side exit exhaust, the head was machined down to give higher compression whilst retaining the originality of the works cars and running on 95+ unleaded, other period modifications include the mirrors Raydyot Racing side mirror and Lucas Dipping mirror inside. Other notable changes are the use of a shorter armed front shocker although still the same oil filled original type these were used on works racing cars to give better camber on the front wheels for better handling, it has also been fitted with a set of Dennis Welsh front lowering bushes. The entire front end was rebuilt with polyurethane bushes for longer life and better control.
I have a full history of this car including the original purchase history form the factory (including the original English number plate)and although purchased in England (by an American serviceman) it was built Left Hand Drive and ended up being taken by him to Europe and ultimately the USA where it resided in Arizona, then imported by me and converted to RHD using a NEW Denis Welsh Steering Box and Idler. It also runs a 3.5/1 Differential making it a very street-able and great touring car. About the only thing that is Not period correct and noticeably different is the Electronic Ignition, this was added to make it more reliable (it can now be stored all winter and will still go come spring. The hard top is included along with the soft top and a Tonneau Cover, the Hard top retains its originality, it had new seals and new lining inside but has not been restored.
This Healey is Fast, Reliable, a pleasure to drive and most of all Fun. It will run all day in and out of traffic and can cruse for hours on the open road. It’s Not suited to the faint hearted tweed jacketed driver looking for an original car. But if you like speed, performance and proven reliability mixed in with lashings of Fun, wind in your hair excitement, this is you.
