Seller's Description
Affectionately nicknamed the “Bugeye”, The Austin-Healey Sprite is one of the most recognisable British roadsters ever produced. Measuring nearly two feet shorter and weighing three hundred pounds less than a sixties VW Beetle, the bugeye is tiny. Designed to be simple and affordable, they are great fun to drive and provide a raw, exciting driving experience. It's not surprising to see, fifty years later, that Sprites are not only popular as collector cars, but also competitive in many vintage racing venues. With very few of these cars on the market today, they are rare and desirable classics. This factory right hand drive example was delivered new to Sydney on the 4th of November, 1960. Presenting its original colour combination of Monza Red over a contrasting Black interior, this Sprite has been subject to a full restoration with complete originality in mind. The recent paintwork is of an excellent standard, and the interior has been masterfully revived using all original parts. Our “bugeye” is in outstanding mechanical condition, having been lovingly maintained by it’s previous owners. The 948cc Inline-4 provides 43hp, giving this ultra-lightweight roadster a top speed of 133km/h. The 4-speed manual feels smooth and precise, providing a sporty yet pleasurable drive. The outstanding performance of these vehicles is apparent through their success at the Sebring 12 hour, and international rallies. The original drivers handbook, owner’s manual and maintenance receipts remain with the car, as well as a heritage certificate from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust. At the height of originality and condition, this car truly is a time capsule. The quirky, yet successful design of the Sprite has rendered it a classic, which in the modern market is heavily sought after. Ready to be driven off the showroom floor, this example would be a compliment to any garage or collection. PLEASE NOTE: odometer is in Miles *Test Drive and Viewing by Appointment Only
