Ahead of this year’s Meguiar’s MotorEx, staged over the July 21-22 weekend at Sydney’s Olympic Park, Shannons have attracted a diverse group of Aussie classics for their ‘Custom & Collectable Auction’ at Sydney’s Olympic Park on July 22, including a Sixties EH Special being offered at No Reserve.

One of the most coveted of the Holdens consigned is sure to be a 1961 FB Utility that is believed to have covered just 70,000 miles in the hands of two owners from new. Coming from a prominent early Holden collection, the vehicle was delivered to Preston Motors in Melbourne in January 1961 and remains largely untouched and very original, still running without indicators and retaining its factory Glade Green acrylic paint. It is expected to sell for the price of a late model Commodore in the $28,000-$34,000 range.

From the same collection and expected to make similar money comes a hard to find 1961 Holden EK Standard Station Sedan that was purchased from the original owner’s gardener and retains its original NSW number plates. Still in factory original Cataract Grey paintwork, the EK has been an Armidale, NSW car all its life. Apart from a few minor touch ups over the past 49 years, the wagon is described by the vendor as being completely original. Just 3,000 of these EK Standard Station Sedans were built, making them hard to find today in such unmolested condition and hence, collectable.

Shannons are also offering a 1960 FB Holden Sedan that has had one owner for the past 48 years. The car has enjoyed a bare metal respray in its original Corona Grey nitrocellulose lacquer and is fitted with the equally-rare front camper seat with fleck trim option.   It is expected to sell in the $20,000-$24,000 range.

Bargains of the MotorEx auction are expected to be a 1959 Holden FC Sedan that until recently spent all its life in the Glen Innes area of NSW and a no-reserve 1964 EH Special. Showing just 58,000 miles (believed genuine) and featuring original trim and floor mats, the FC is expected to sell in the $9,000-$14,000 range.

The unmolested 1964 Holden EH Special, fitted with the 149-cid six and optional Trimatic auto, has been in its current ownership since 1999. According to Shannons, the vehicle presents well in its correct Fowlers Ivory over Gippsland Green two-tone paintwork and has benefitted from a number of mechanical and trim upgrades. It is being offered at No Reserve and is expected to bring $10,000-$15,000.

Other Aussie consignments for this auction include: SL/R 5000, SS, and A9X Toranas; an HK GTS 327 Monaro; and 1976 Monaro HX 'LE' coupe.

Now in its 12th year, Meguiar’s MotorEx will be staged over the July 21-22 weekend at Sydney’s Olympic Park.
