Below are some sales pitches on explaining these trucks lifted from the net. Introduced by Dodge in March of 1978, the Lil Red Express was engineered as a muscle truck and built on the short wheelbase D150 platform. In 1978, only 2,188 were produced and in 1979 the production jumped to 5,118. Unique to the Lil Red Express were bright red paint with gold striping chrome exhaust stacks with heat guards a step-side bed with wood trim and a factory AM/FM. Being a top of the line model this vehicle is well optioned for a vintage truck with power steering power brakes AM/FM radio vinyl bench seat seat belts and aluminum wheels with white letter radial tires. What better way to stand out at the cars shows than to pull up in a limited edition truck! The Lil Red Express is iconic and instantly recognizable with its dual-exhaust system consisting of chrome-plated vertical tailpipes mounted behind the cab, giving it that Semi Truck feel. Other features include a small-block Dodge V8 engine with a four-barrel carburetor mated to an automatic transmission. The truck is finished in Medium Canyon Red with a black interior. Gold accent striping and decals contribute to the truck's distinct look, along with the wood trim on the bed, alloy wheels, and chrome plated side steps. The truck also has power steering and brakes. The Li'l Red Express is a truly customized vehicle for the Dodge enthusiast and it came fully equipped in this basic manner from the factory. This represents the first of only two years of limited production for this model. At the time the Lil' Red Express was built it was the fastest American vehicle at the time from 0 to 100 mph. In the late '70's government emissions standards relatively killed all muscle in cars. Dodge decided to rebel with the ''Adult Toys'' line that also included the ''Warlock'' and the ''Midnight Express''. The Lil' Red Express had a special High Performance 360 C.I. 4-barrel small block engine code (EH1) which was a modified version of the 360 police engine (E58) producing 225 net horsepower @ 3800 RPM. The package also included Hemi style mufflers with a crossover pipe breathing through 2 chrome stacks located behind the cab, a special 727 transmission and 3.55:1 rear gearing. These trucks are mean and certainly stand out in the crowd as rare, bold American production trucks.
