The good news about the 2008 Falcon
•Effortless performance from a smooth six cylinder engine
•Efficiency of the gearbox
•Safe handling with entertaining feel
•Room for five adults and gear
•Reasonably economical
Ford has released an all-new model – the 2008 XT Ford so it should come as no surprise Ford Australia has given the 2008 XT Falcon its best shot.
We reckon the 2008 Falcon with well-executed, if understated, design looks much better in the metal than it does in the photos with its sleek lines and elegant proportions. It could easily have come from Europe.
Things you will like:
•Ford replaced an ordinary audio volume knob with a quality-feel rubber dial with precise increments.
•A key which retracts into a black plastic housing .
•The soft-touch external boot release.
•You can adjust the cruise-control increments by 1kmh.
You will love
•A roomier interior and
•The look
•The quality feel of the steering wheel
•The massive centre console is massive that contains a small pouch to store a phone or MP3 player.
The previous model's small side mirrors have been replaced by larger mirrors that provide a much better over-shoulder view. Rear-seat room is marginally improved over the previous Falcon. There's about 10 centimetres of space between an average-sized adult's knees and the back of the front seat.
The Falcon's 4.0-litre, in-line six-cylinder engine has been around a while but it has had another round of refinements that give it more power, and better fuel efficiency.
It's now matched to a five-speed automatic transmission that helps get the Falcon off the line smartly. It's also better for overtaking and improves fuel efficiency at freeway speeds. A six-speed auto is a $1500 option and improves performance and economy alike.
Fleet cars aren't supposed to be sports sedans but acceleration times provide an interesting insight into their overall performance.
In our satellite-assisted 0 to 100kmh tests, the XT stopped the clock in 7.4 seconds - more than two seconds faster than the Commodore Omega. The Falcon XT has the edge in overtaking performance as well.
Ford has spent millions of dollars reworking the steering and front suspension on the new Falcon and it shows. The new model feels well connected to the road and the ride is comfortable without being floaty.
Our technicians have inspected and serviced this vehicle. It comes with a service history, spare key, RWC and a 12 month warranty.
YOUR PRICE INCLUDES:
* Current VicRoads Roadworthy Certification (RWC)
